Demand for Construction Workers

Predicted Demand for Construction Workers in 2015

Trying to choose the right career can often be a difficult decision to make.  This is sometimes not helped by the current recession causing uncertainty about future job prospects within many industries.

Despite the recession, the construction industry did better than hoped last year and from 2013 it is expected to start recovering and see growth by the end of 2015. As a result of this expected growth, the CITB-Construction Skills Council have predicted that demand for workers in the East Midlands will start to rise from 2014.

The construction industry has long been a driver of growth for the UK economy and it is important that workers have the right skills in the right place, at the right time. Over 2.35 million people, which is 8% of the total UK workforce are employed within the construction sector. Nearly 43,000 new entrants will be needed every year, between now and 2015, for new construction projects and to cover the absence of skilled workers who swapped trades or even left the construction industry in the housing slump of 2009.

The construction industry needs people from a wide variety of backgrounds with different experiences and abilities. There are plenty of opportunities to work within companies in roles ranging from trowel trades to site management or surveyance. There is also the possibility to progress into project management or the private housing sector. House renovations or home improvements are profitable markets which still require tradesmen from various construction backgrounds.

Learners who enrol on courses in 2012 who achieve their qualification by 2015 will be perfectly placed to take advantage of the expected growth in the construction industry in 2015.

To talk about your future within the construction industry, why not come and visit the Construction Department and talk to our tutors who will be very happy to help.
