60 Engineering Apprentices gathered together for a photo with SLC’s Principal, Jim Aleander to celebrate the college’s largest intake of first year recruits in over 15 years.

The UK is currently experiencing a severe skills shortage within the engineering sector which has led to an increasing demand for Engineering Apprentices. By investing in Apprenticeships, businesses can equip themselves with a highly skilled workforce, improving their performance and helping to boost the national economy.

SLC’s Engineering Department, based in the city at Putney Road West, has a long established reputation for providing the highest level of training delivered by industry trained professionals. Following a £500,000 investment in new equipment, Apprentices are trained using the latest modern technology, to meet exacting industry standards.

As a leading engineering training provider, SLC understands the needs of this demanding industry and can provide individual and bespoke training programmes, suited to the specific needs of each company. Working in partnership with SLC, apprentices are trained by the company for the company, an extremely worthwhile investment for growth.

Apprenticeships are seen as a vital component of government plans to build a highly-skilled workforce and with starting salaries in the range of £8,000-£12,000, they offer ambitious young people a gold standard option to help build a successful career within this sector.
