SLC Engineering Department Relocates to Main Campus at South Wigston
SLC are relocating the engineering department, from its current home at Putney Road to new purpose-built facilities at the main campus in South Wigston. Substantial building work has already been undertaken to house the engineering department which will be completed and ready for learners from September 2012. This initiative brings together all our technology training together under one roof, building on the excellent reputation and resources of engineering and construction.
This move will benefit current and future students, including greater opportunities in both construction and engineering, through full and part-time courses, Apprenticeships, HNCs and Foundation Degrees.
From September 2012, businesses looking to profit from sales of green renewable energy products will also be able to access nationally recognised courses in the installation of solar panels and air and ground source heat pumps.
This latest development also opens up vocational training for our local school partners by providing pupils with real hands-on experience in highly sought after industry sectors. This in turn opens up a range of careers, such as engineering, where highly skilled staff can have great earning potential.
Head of Faculty at SLC, Andy Ground, believes that “this is an exciting time for the college: By bringing together the engineering and the construction departments it will provide our learners with increased opportunities to access the high quality education and skills training valued by employers.
It is especially important in the current climate of increased University tuition fees that learners are aware that they can still achieve HE qualifications through alternative routes such as SLC.”
If you have any enquiries about this move, please contact Andy Ground on Tel: 0116 264 3512 or email andy.ground@slcollege.ac.uk. To enquire about Engineering courses or Apprenticeships at SLC, please contact Tel: 0116 264 3535 or email info@slcollege.ac.uk
