Building a New Future at Countesthorpe Cricket Club
In December, a team of SLC construction and carpentry students put their skills to charitable use at Countesthorpe Cricket Club by starting to build a large extension to their changing rooms.
SLC undertook the project as part of the NatWest CricketForce scheme, who oversee the largest volunteer initiative in UK sport. The scheme relies on enthusiastic volunteers to donate time and materials to help improve the facilities at their local cricket clubs. Through their involvement with the scheme, SLC is able to build bridges with the local communities and provide opportunities for the learners to gain work based evidence.
The extension is expected to be completed in mid-February. These on-site projects allow the students to use and develop their skills in working environment which they find very rewarding. SLC student Eddie Warner, “liked the challenges by working on-site. This is excellent training which will help me progress into the construction industry.”
SLC received praise from Countesthorpe Cricket Club Secretary, Terry Swingler, who thanked the students for their hard work extending the changing rooms. “The quality of the students work is impressive and everyone at the Club is very appreciative for their support and volunteering their time.”
