SLC Construction Students Put Another Brick in the Wall for Saffron Dynamo Football Club

SLC Construction Department is always looking for ways to further their students training and development and so increase their job prospects. One of the ways that they achieve this is by providing their students with invaluable site experience through local building projects, where in exchange for materials, the students provide their labour free of charge. These projects are an ideal way to give something back to the community in which the college is based. One such worthy cause was Saffron Dynamo Football Club, who asked the students to complete their entrance wall.

To simulate a real life construction project, the students were required to assess the job and the materials required and then to complete the entrance wall within 1 day, whilst ensuring that the quality of the brickwork met strict professional standards.

These opportunities are ideal for the students to put their skills into practice, as their Project Manager Duncan Maccoll, confirms:

"These projects bring the students out the classroom and give them experience of working for clients, working to time frames and being able to cost their own jobs in the future."

The standard and speed of the students' work impressed Saffron Dynamo Football Club, who were extremely pleased with the finished result. Club Secretary, Bob King complimented the students on their "excellent work which was such a splendid effort that it matched the wall produced by the original builders. The students were a pleasure to work with and we look forward to working with them again in the future."

SLC are on the look-out for projects of this nature, so if you have any construction work that might be suitable for the college students, then please get in contact with SLC Project Manager Duncan Maccoll Tel: 0116 264 3807 or email: duncan.maccoll@slcollege.ac.uk.
