Apprenticeships: the benefits for Construction firms

Wednesday 8th November 2017

Construction in the UK is thriving. Over the next five years, 179,000 Construction jobs will be created and output will grow by 1.7% each year.

Apprenticeships are often highlighted as an effective way to meet this demand. Tom Forster, Learning and Skills Manager for Built Environment at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College gives three top reasons why Construction firms should consider this training option:

Employees at the top of their game
“As part of their programme, Apprentices will learn about the latest industry trends and technology. This knowledge will cascade throughout the organisation, not only improving team performance but potentially helping you to target new clients.

Construction Apprentices will also be familiar with health and safety requirements, legislation and quality standards.

Improve productivity
“According to the Centre for Economic Research, Apprentices can boost a company’s productivity by an average of £214 per week.

Dedicated staff
“With an ageing workforce, it is vital for Construction firms to keep hold of their staff and invest in developing talent.

“By training on site, Apprentices not only learn their trade, but also develop relationships with colleagues and customers – resulting in increased loyalty.

Here at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, we specialise in delivering a number of Construction Apprenticeships including Bricklaying, Carpentry and Joinery, Fitted Interiors, Painting and Decorating and Property Maintenance. Our Harrowbrook Training Centre located in Hinckley is designed to replicate construction environments, with on-site construction and logistics workshops.
