Student satisfaction soars!

Monday 23rd October 2017

Eight out of ten students at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College would recommend the College to friends and family, according to a national survey of student satisfaction. This rating is above average for further education colleges in England and represents a significant increase of nearly 20% on the previous year.

The College has worked closely with its students during the year since it was formed following a merger of federation partners, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and South Leicestershire College.

High numbers of students took part in the survey, run by the Education & Skills Funding Agency. The College ranked 16 out of 184 participating organisations nationally in terms of student engagement.

Marion Plant OBE, Principal and Chief Executive, said: “We are pleased with this result because it demonstrates the investment we have made in listening to our students and acting on the feedback we have received.

“We believe that the student voice is vitally important because it encourages students to build their personal confidence and self-esteem. Making their voices heard helps students to develop employability skills and enables them to develop a commitment to becoming active citizens.

“The higher levels of satisfaction evidenced by these results is a testament to the hard work of our staff in supporting them to feel part of the new College.”

The survey asked students to rate their satisfaction with the teaching they receive, how they are treated by staff, the quality of advice they are given on their next steps, and the support they receive in college. Students said that, in particular, they enjoyed their study programmes and felt safe in college.

In addition to promoting engagement with the national survey, the College conducts regular audits of its own, starting at this time of year by reviewing satisfaction with its induction and enrolment process.

Students take advantage of many opportunities to get involved throughout the year and the governing body of the College has places for two student governors. The Student Parliament meets four times a year and enables students to quiz members of the college management team on issues that are important to them.
