Students help out at Salvation Army

Wednesday 24th May 2017

Students from South Leicestershire College have been using their skills to help out in the community this month.

Students on Construction courses at the College have designed and built an outdoor storage unit for the Salvation Army in South Wigston.

As part of the project, students on the Level 1 Brickwork course have developed a blockwork storage unit whilst students on the level 2 Carpentry course have built the roof and gate.

The two-week project takes place between Thursday 18 May and Thursday 1 June.

Alan Creighton, Brickwork Lecturer at the College said: “This is a great opportunity for our bricklayers and carpenters to put into practice the skills they have learnt and to see the end result of a building they have constructed together as a team. As a college, it is a great achievement to provide a facility for use in the local community.”

Andrew Richardson, Community Centre Manger at the Salvation Army said: “This is the second project the College have been involved in at The Salvation Amy in South Wigston and both projects have been carried out to a very high standard. The students have conducted themselves very professionally and their workmanship is of a high standard, I hope the students have found the projects useful to be involved in.”
