North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College hosted a visit from the Bangladeshi WorldSkills delegation last week.
The visit, which was organised by the British Council took place at the College group’s Hinckley and South Leicestershire Campuses on Thursday 27 April.
The delegation which included ministers from Bangladesh visited the College to discover more about the preparation and delivery of IT and Fashion competitions during the morning. They had the opportunity to meet with staff and students at the College’s Creative Arts Campus in Hinckley, observing them collating their work for their portfolios and discussed their work placements with a local designer.
The afternoon was hosted at the College’s campus in South Wigston where the delegates met staff and students from the Computing Department as well as taking a tour of the College’s Construction facilities and onsite Hair and Beauty Suites.
Marion Plant OBE, Principal and Chief Executive at the College said: “This was a fantastic opportunity to welcome the delegates and showcase the College’s exceptional competition work. Competitions are a huge part of our college culture; we believe they play a vital role in preparing young people for work in their chosen industries. It was an honour to welcome the delegates and we look forward to working with them in the future.
Mr A B M Khorshed Alam, the CEO of National Skills Development Council in Bangladesh said: “The aim of these visits was to assess ourselves and our current position. We now have a good idea of the overall quality and management needed. Everyone has been so enthusiastic and willing to provide their support.”
Ms Louise Cowcher, Director of Development: Education and Skills Sector Specialist, British Council added: “On behalf of the British Council we’d like to say thank you to the Bangladeshi WorldSkills delegation. We are really pleased to be working with them and we look forward to a strong partnership going forward.”
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College have a strong involvement with WorldSkills competitions with many students taking part in the national competitions held at the NEC each year. South Leicestershire College student Regan Hemingray has been selected to compete for a place in Squad UK. If successful he will then go on to be a part of Team UK, a team that will be going for gold at the WorldSkills finals in Kazan in 2019.
WorldSkills is a global hub that aims to promote skills excellence. Working with industry, government and organisations on an international basis they promote the benefits and need for skilled professionals. Every two years they host their flagship WorldSkills Competitions: the biggest skills event in the world.
