With the launch of the reforms looming, Emma Dalton, Hairdressing Lecturer from South Leicestershire College discusses why Apprenticeships are a valid, and in some cases essential training option in the Hairdressing sector.
“Any industry requires staff to have high quality working and communication skills and Hairdressing is no exception. Each member of staff not only needs practical hairdressing skills but also strong business sense – knowing how to place orders, communicate effectively with clients, build relationships and knowing the intricacies of how the business works.
“Apprenticeships ensure that learners are fully equipped with all of these skills. They have the best of both worlds, their communication skills a much stronger and they have the opportunity to learn from people in industry.
“Here at the College we have strong relationships with a number of employers to design training programmes to meet their specific needs. Employers are also able to keep track of their Apprentice’s progress and where they need support.”
Lisa Davidson, owner of Ellce Hair and Beauty in Sapcote was previously an Apprentice herself and now employs two full-time Apprentices with the College:
“I think that the Hairdressing Apprenticeships gives good basic skills and Apprentices then develop these in the salon along with speed and precision. It gives really good foundations.
“I’ve had a really good experience with the College, the girls get on really well there. I think the service is absolutely brilliant, they are always at the end of the phone, I’ve been really pleased.”
Emma added: “We currently provide Hairdressing Apprenticeships across the North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire region. To find out more contact the Business Development Team: firstname.lastname@example.org 0116 264 3535
