Road safety lessons for local students

Friday 11th November 2016

Students at South Leicestershire College took part in a driving awareness day this week.

The Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service visited the College’s South Wigston Campus on Tuesday 8 November to talk to learners about their Fatal Four campaign.

The campaign has been designed to combat the four most common driving offences committed by young drivers:

  • Speeding
  • Not wearing seatbelts
  • Drink and Drug driving
  • Using mobile phones whilst driving

Throughout the day, students were invited to a seminar discussing the fatal four, they also had the chance to test out virtual reality goggles and sit in a simulator car to discover first-hand the devastating effects careless driving can have.

Callum Marvin, from the Student Liaison and Enrichment Department at the College said: “It’s so important for young people to be educated in road safety and this campaign is the ideal way to do this. The students were really engaged and took a lot away from the day. Thank you to Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service for coming over to see us.”
