A student from South Leicestershire College has won the Advanced Apprentice of the Year Award during a recent ceremony.
Gemma Chamberlain was presented with the prestigious award at the Leicestershire Apprenticeship Hub Graduation Ceremony 2016.
The event was held at De Montfort Hall on Thursday 16 June and celebrated the success of Apprentices from around the Leicester and Leicestershire area.
Gemma studied the Advanced Apprenticeship in Leadership & Management with South Leicestershire College whilst working at Loros Hospice as part of the Domestic Services team. Judges said they were blown away by Gemma’s achievements.
Gemma said: “I would like to say how proud I am to have received such a fantastic award, it is so nice to be recognised for all the hard work that I have done. My assessor Kirsty has been so supportive throughout the Apprenticeship and I have learnt so many skills from her that will help me in my future career. I can’t thank her enough.”
Kirsty McNamara, Gemma’s Assessor from South Leicestershire College added: “This event is a fantastic way to showcase Apprenticeships and how they really prepare young people with the skills and knowledge they need to pursue their career. Gemma has been an absolute pleasure to teach and we were extremely excited to watch her receive this award.”
Laurel Penrose, Deputy Principal and Chief Executive at the College presented Gemma with her award at the ceremony: “Congratulations to Gemma for all of her hard work throughout her Apprenticeship, this award is thoroughly deserved and we wish her all the best for her future career.”
This is the second year a South Leicestershire College student has won the award, Kaifer Williams picked up Apprentice of the Year at last year’s awards.
