Life after A-Levels

Thursday 13th August 2015

Today is the moment of truth for many teens across the area as they receive their A Level results.

But after the envelopes are opened and the results revealed, what’s next?

For many, higher education is the ideal next step, the perfect route to get the academic qualifications they need to pursue their career.

However Higher Education has turned into a daunting prospect. With news of spiralling university tuition fees and abolition of grants taking over the headlines, degree level study can seem out of reach.

An alternative route…

There are, however alternative routes to getting that degree level qualification. South Leicestershire College offers a wide range of Higher Education courses in subjects including Business, Engineering, Computing, Creative Media and Sport.

What’s the difference?

First and foremost, by studying at college, students can take advantage of lower tuition fees. This, along with a range of financial support available enables students to study at a lower cost than university.

A flexible approach to learning also means students can not only study on their doorstep but also part-time and around their other commitments

Laurel Penrose, Deputy Principal and Chief Executive Officer at the College said: “Here at South Leicestershire College, we are dedicated to helping students gain the high quality academic qualifications they need to pursue their career.

“We also combine this with practical working skills. In today’s competitive jobs market, graduates need those softer skills, the genuine experience of the working world, that sets them apart and ensures they can hit the ground running when entering employment. That’s our focus at the College, ensuring students are work ready.”
