Students Help Local Church
Tuesday 23rd June 2015
Bricklaying students from South Leicestershire College (SLC) put their skills into action recently to help a local church.
Students on the Level 2 Bricklaying course travelled to Blaby Baptist Church in Leicester to give the outside grounds a face lift by replacing and re-laying slabs.
Duncan MacColl, Construction Lecturer at SLC said: “We were contacted by the Chruch Deacon, Ernest Pinder to see if the project was something we could help with as part of our working in the community ethos. SLC is proud to be part of the local community and being able to help the church with much needed renovations was a great opportunity to show the skills our students learn on their courses.”
Brandon Rowden, one of the students who worked on the project said: “I really enjoyed the project, it gives us the chance to put into practice what we are taught in the classroom. The work-based experience we gain from the projects will help us in the future.”
Bette Bolton, Church Secretary said,
“I would like to say a very big thank you for the work done at the Church. It enhances the Church, making the outside of the building look neat and tidy”
