Students Shine at The Skills Show

James GroocockStudents from South Leicestershire College tested their mettle competing in the WorldSkills UK National Finals at The Skills Show last week.

The event at the NEC, which saw nearly 74,000 visitors, played host to a variety of careers exhibitions and conferences as well as the finals of the WorldSkills UK competitions.

James Groocock competed in the Health and Social Care category and
Krzyszof Prusakiewicz in Advanced Web Development.

Krzyszof PrusakiewiczPrincipal and Chief Executive, Marion Plant OBE is a passionate supporter and ambassador of skills competitions. She said: “I am delighted for James and Krzyszof who took part in the National Finals, representing the very best talent in the country. To reach that stage is in itself a fantastic achievement and we are proud of how far they have come.

“Competitions are an integral part of the learning experience at our College. They stretch students’ technical skills and also develop softer skills that are essential in the workplace.”

Marion pro-actively supports skills competitions as a strategy to raise student ambition and achievement, and she is a Trustee of Find a Future, Chair of the Premier College Group and Chair of the national AoC WorldSkills Portfolio Group.
