SLC has been awarded the Investors in Diversity (IID) quality mark for its diversity scheme, receiving praise for advancing inclusivity within the college.
The award is run by the National Centre for Diversity. Institutions must demonstrate “excellence in equality, diversity and inclusion practice”. This Stage 2 award focuses on cultural change and transforming practices and behaviours in equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation.
The college was recognised as encouraging diversity through a continuous programme of awareness days, activities, courses and events, ranging from training dignity & respect mentors, a ‘Dignity at Work’ campaign and the ‘Find your Voice’ project which aims to establish a voice for black heritage learners as well as forum for student with disabilities.
Assessors from the National Centre for Diversity praised the college for always looking for new opportunities to make the learning experience more inclusive. The college also impressed Assessors with its commitment and the value it placed on equality, diversity and inclusion as well as the investment undertaken to make South Leicestershire College a progressive and inclusive organisation for staff and students alike.
This application was led by Tracey Forman, Head of Student & Employment Services, who would like to thank all staff for helping our college to achieve this impressive award and in particular, those members of the Equality & Diversity Committee and those staff and students who took part in the Assessment Day.
The accreditation is valid for a period of 2 years and South Leicestershire College remains committed to maintaining these high standards and good practices for the Investors in Diversity journey.
