SLC and Lafarge Celebrate Students Success!
1st March 2010South Leicestershire College helped celebrate the achievements of seven Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK employees at a presentation ceremony on Thursday 18 February.
The employees, all of whom work at Mountsorrel Quarry, Leicestershire, Europe's largest granite quarry, achieved level 1 and level 2 qualifications in a recent literacy course. The course, which was delivered to them on site by Skills for Life lecturer Kate Kemp, was part of a pilot programme which may now be opened to other sites across the UK.
Lafarge A&C UK is part of the largest building materials group in the world and is a major UK supplier of innovative concretes, asphalts, aggregates such as rock, sand & gravel and waste management services.
The students were presented with their certificates at the firm's head office in Syston, Leicester by Kate Kemp and the event was attended by the company's Managing Director, Robert Whetstone.
