Great news for childcare sector

A major U-turn will be great news for the childcare sector according to Clare Brown, Learning and Skills Manager for Health and Life Sciences at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College:

“Official announcements have confirmed that the grade C in English and maths are no longer required for those studying a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Early Years Education. The GCSE requirements will now be replaced with functional skills qualifications.

“This is fantastic news for the sector. There are many people out there who are passionate about pursuing a career as an early year’s educator but have struggled to progress due to the GCSE requirements. Previously those who did not have GCSEs at grade C could not legally practise.

“This change will open up these progression opportunities whilst still ensuring each employee has the relevant core skills.

“We’d encourage anyone interested in employing an Apprentice on this programme to get in touch with us today, training is free for those aged 19+ if they enrol before end of March - eligibility criteria apply.

“The Apprenticeship is available to new recruits or current staff members who want to upskill.”
