Students and staff at South Leicestershire College welcomed the High Sheriff of Leicestershire this week.
Professor Surinder Sharma visited the South Wigston Campus on Thursday 23 March. The visit was part of a wider tour of Leicester hosted by the Mayor and Mayoress of Oadby and Wigston.
During the visit the High Sheriff visited the College’s Construction workshop where he got hands on with a brick bond activity. He then viewed a drill demonstration by the public services department. The visit finished with the media department where the Professor viewed students’ animation work and even had a go at reading the news in a set-up studio.
Marion Plant OBE, Principal and Chief Executive of North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College said: “We were extremely honoured to welcome Professor Sharma and the Mayor and Mayoress of Oadby and Wigston to our College. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to meet students and staff from a range of areas and see how we are working to really prepare students for the world of work. We look forward to welcoming the Professor back in the future.”
Professor Surinder has been a City Councillor for Leicester and chaired the Housing Committee. He has served as a Justice of the Peace and was also appointed an Alderman for the City of Leicester in 2013.
