Over 2016, Fosse Park has been working in partnership with local organisations and businesses to help support local people get back into work. Through a workplace coordinator scheme and jobs fairs, a combined total of 50 people have been helped into employment. The next jobs fair is due to take place on 24th May 2017 and below is an update on progress so far.
‘Recruit Fosse’, a new programme jointly run by South Leicestershire College and Fosse Park, has so far helped 24 people back into employment since April 2016.
The programme is available to unemployed local residents or those on income support, enabling them to gain a retail qualification. The workshops include a CV surgery to help participants with the job application process and interview skills.
So far, 24 people have secured employment within the park at Marks and Spencer, Primark, Argos, Boots, Next, Curry’s and Superdrug.
Lisa Smart, Workplace Co-ordinator for the programme, who is based at Fosse Park, said: “On behalf of South Leicestershire College we have been working closely with retailers throughout Fosse Park to help those who are unemployed get back into the world of work.
“Getting back onto the work ladder can be a daunting prospect and this programme provides the confidence boost that many people need to get back out there. The groups we have worked with so far form such a strong bond and develop so much in such a short space of time, we hope to continue this success going forward.
“As part of the programme we also work with individuals on income support to help those who are carers get back onto the jobs ladder. We also actively support The Prince’s Trust by providing training to young people who are participating in retail work experience.”
Jobs Fairs at Fosse Park
In addition to the workplace co-ordinator scheme, Fosse Park has held two jobs fairs in August and September, working in partnership with South Leicestershire College, Blaby District Council, Oadby & Wigston District Council and JobCentre plus.
In total, they have attracted 632 job seekers with thousands of jobs on offer, including with Marks and Spencer, Currys PC World, The Prince's Trust, Santander UK, Royal Navy Recruitment, British Army and Leicestershire County Council.
To date, over 26 people have found employment in retail roles at Fosse Park with hundreds more connections made between local people and businesses.
Faheem Qureshi, Head of Employment Generation at The Crown Estate, which manages Fosse Park, said: It’s important to us that we build a relationship between Fosse Park and the local community. Through working closely with local partners to deliver Recruit Fosse and the Jobs Fairs, we’re creating opportunities for local businesses and people to come together and explore what each has to offer, whether as a talented potential workforce or a prospective employer.”
The Crown Estate is also piloting the recruitment scheme to support local people and businesses in a further two retail destinations, Princesshay in Exeter and CrownGate Shopping Centre in Worcester.
