Next steps for year 11s

South Leicestershire College’s School Leavers’ Guide is now available.

Paul Fletton, Vice Principal from the College explains why this should be on the top of every year 11’s reading list.

“As the half way point of the autumn term fast approaches, now is the time year 11 students will be thinking about their next steps after school. However with so many different options available, this is much easier said than done.”

“Our guide gives an in-depth view of all of the options available here at South Leicestershire College including full-time courses and Apprenticeship programmes. We’ve also included industry overviews, giving young people the chance to discover more about different sectors and potential career paths.”

“Our full-time vocational programmes are available in a huge range of subjects, from Business & Management, Creative Industries, Child Development & Education, Engineering, Hair & Beauty, Health & Social Care, Motor Vehicle, Public Services, Skilled Trades, Sport and Travel & Tourism.”

“Designed to really prepare young people for work in their chosen industry, our vocational programmes are ideal whether they are looking to apply for university, go on to further training or into full-time employment.”

“We also have a great Apprenticeship offer. This route is perfect for those who want to get stuck into the world of work straight away, allowing learners to work as a paid employee and earn a wage whilst working towards a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships are a great alternative to desk-based study and a valid route to university and full-time employment. In order to start an Apprenticeship, young people will need to be employed, we have a great recruitment service here at the College where we can help young people to apply for vacancies in their chosen sector.”

“The first and often most difficult step is deciding which career path to take. For those who are unsure we have a Guidance Team who are here to help students discover the right route for them.”
