The College has worked with Northampton General Hospital for over seven years, during which time both parties have formed a strong partnership to develop and deliver a robust apprenticeship programme, which offers the possibility of a placement at the end of it.
The programme has been spearheaded by the Trust’s learning and development manager Becky Sansom, who as well as driving the NGH apprenticeship programme, has also embedded functional skills training (English, Maths and IT) to Level Two throughout the organisation.
Presenting the award, Laurel Penrose, deputy principal and chief executive of the college, said: “NGH is a worthy winner because they continually support their apprentices throughout their programme of learning and then facilitate their progression into substantive contracted posts within the hospital.
“This is a true three-way partnership that culminates in the learner gaining valid and valuable real work experience and ensures that they have the work and life skills needed to move into employment.”
The college and the hospital work closely together to strive for excellence and opportunities for the young people in their community. Their aim is to secure the best learning programme possible and progression both into employment and then on to further and higher education. It is a partnership that fully supports the philosophy of ‘grow your own’.
Becky Sansom added: “I feel very honoured and delighted to have won this award on behalf of NGH. I have a great team who have supported my vision and have engaged with the hard work needed to achieve such a successful partnership.
“I am very proud to have been able to be part of the development of not only the apprenticeship programme but to see individuals flourish in confidence and abilities, enabling them to become valuable members of our future workforce. We have all worked hard together to achieve this award and we look forward to continued success with the programme.”
