The ‘Beautifeet’ team, made up of Level 3 Business students, Emily Byrne and Emily Neale presented their idea for the interchangeable heeled shoe during the heats of the Dragon’s Den style competition.
Emily Byrne spoke about how the idea came about: “Being girls we love wearing shoes of all different kinds, but we all had the same problem that our feet would start to hurt, usually when we were too far away from home to change them. The ‘Beautifeet’ shoe, with its changeable heel, means you can go from a high heel to a wedge heel or to a flat whenever you needed to.”
Emily Neale, one of the team said of the experience: “We all believed in the idea in the team and though it was a challenging project, all of our hard work has paid off. The awards night was great fun. It was amazing to see the other projects and teams and talk about their ideas.”
Katie Morris, Colleges Network Development Manager at the CULN said: “The event was a great way to showcase the talent for entrepreneurship amongst young people in the Colleges-University of Leicester Network.”
Caitlin McReynolds, tutor at the College said: “I am really proud of the team. Throughout the competition they have demonstrated the skills they have been learning from a number of their modules. The team’s professional approach, which included matching branded uniforms and a prototype of their product, helped them to deliver a perfect pitch to the judges.”
Laurel Penrose, Deputy Principal and Chief Executive Officer at the College said:
The competition was supported by University of Leicester, Leicester City Council, Leicestershire County Council and Leicester & Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership.
