Accommodation
We can arrange accommodation with a local family while you study with us. All our family accommodation is checked regularly and meets the British Council standards. You will have access to our welfare support network. If you have any problems, you can speak directly with the family or, in more serious cases, with the Accommodation Officer.
We cannot arrange accommodation in the private sector, but we can send you details of student accommodation or temporary hotel accommodation to make your own decision.
Homestay Accommodation - £130 per week
Your host will treat you as a full member of the family. Evening meals during the week and all meals at weekends will be provided. No more than four students will live together in this type of accommodation. You will have plenty opportunity to practice speaking English.
Self Catering Home Stay Accommodation - £95 per week
You will live in a private home where more than four students may live, although often we place only one or two students in each home. Sometimes the host family live in the same property. This option is suitable for students who wish to prepare their own meals.
Accommodation Deposit
We will arrange accommodation for you, once you have sent a deposit of £150 plus £20 administration charge. This will be returned one month after the end of your course, as long as you follow these rules:
- You must stay in college-accredited accommodation for at least 8 weeks. If there is a problem, we can usually move you to another family, do not just leave!
- You must give the family at least one week's notice before permanently leaving the property.
- You must use the accommodation once we have confirmed your booking with the family.
- You must not leave the family without paying outstanding fees to them, or bills in your name addressed to their property.
- Remember you are a guest; treat the family and the home with respect and do not damage the host's property.
- If you do not follow these rules, you may lose your deposit which we will use to compensate or reimburse the host family. The college's decision regarding the return of deposits is final.
Please give us two weeks before the start of your course to find you accommodation.
Payment for Accommodation
Accommodation fees are to be paid directly to the host family, one week in advance. Students are not usually asked to pay a retainer fee during college holidays if they are not using the accommodation. Attendance at college during term-time is compulsory, so if there are classes you should be using the accommodation and must pay. It may be possible to make special arrangements with the host if absence is unavoidable.
Facilities in our Accommodation
Bedroom: This should contain a bed, wardrobe, table and chair.
Washing clothes: Students should have access to laundry facilities. If the host family agrees to wash clothes for you, you should agree to pay them extra for this service.
Food: Host families offering Homestay are not obliged to make meals specific to the student's culture, although we will tell the family of any allergies, dislikes or forbidden food. You should expect British home cooking and eat with the family as part of the Homestay experience. You should have access to the kitchen.
Language: We do not usually place students with the same first language in accommodation together, unless this is requested. We have very limited availability for couples and room-sharing options, so please make such requests clear when you apply.
Access: You will be given a set of keys to the house and should always have access to the home. During the day you should be at college and accept that the family may access your room for maintenance - they will usually advise you in advance. You should keep your room clean and tidy.
Accommodation
What you can expect:
You may be nervous when you arrive but your host family will help you to settle in. All families are checked by the College and we inspect their homes regularly. Remember that the family is there to help and support you. Please do not be afraid to ask them for help.
What we expect from you:
Remember that you are a guest in somebody's home and you must follow their house rules. Treat the family and their property with respect and do not expect the family to serve you or clean up after you.
