|Introduction||Are you creative? Sociable? Interested in technology? Interested in the media? Curious? Want to work in a TV or radio studio? Interested in design or photography? Then this is the course for you!|
Level 3 Media is a ONE or TWO year course. You will study 9 units in each year. The 18 unit qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels.
Media students have a wide skill set and if you are creative or sociable, or interested in technology or the media or just plain curious and if you want to work in TV, Film, Design, Radio or Photography then this course provides you with the background to study at a higher level or to enter the industry to achieve your goal.
|Study Outline||You will work in our own TV studio and use green screen and broadcast quality cameras to film. You will also work in our radio studio to produce high quality radio shows and audio products. Each media classroom is equipped with Adobe Master Collection CS6 and you can borrow DSLR cameras and media equipment from our well-resourced library.|
The media course at SLC is a general media course which provides you with a wide variety of media knowledge and media skills in a range of media areas.
You will study and develop skills in the following areas:
TV and film planning, creating, filming editing and producing visual effects.
Audio - planning, writing, directing shows and dramas: designing sound effects.
Photography understanding genres and producing a portfolio and digital editing.
Graphic Design- planning designing and creating graphic products ,web sites and social media pages.
Animation planning, designing and filming an animation.
|Entry Requirements||You will normally require one of the following:|
5 GCSEs Grade 4 or above to include either English or Maths
Merit at BTEC/OCR Diploma in Media - Level 2
Other equivalent qualifications also considered e.g. DiDA
|Equipment||The college will provide you with the media equipment you will need and you will use professional level software on the colleges computer system.|
A memory stick or hard drive to store your work would be useful.
|Attendance||We encourage learners to attend all lessons in order to achieve the qualification. However the college minimum expected level of attendance is 90%.|
|Assessment||There are no exams on this course. You will be assessed via assignments. You will be graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.|
|Progression||Many of the Level 3 students progress onto HNC at SLC or move onto university or enter the media industry. |
Previous students work in a range of industries from web design, social media marketing, broadcasting, radio photography, graphic design, marketing, retail management etc.
