|Introduction||This course develops students in practical, creative and professional journalism and media skills. We aim to introduce students not only to a broad understanding of journalistic skills and the ability to utilise them to a professional standard, but to also understand of the changing face of the industry and the legal and ethical issues. As well as journalistic writing, students will study elements of graphic and page layout and design, photography and film studies.|
|Study Outline||Year 1: A Mixture of Research Skills; Understanding the Journalism industry; Page layout and graphic design; Writing Techniques; Pre-production; Contextual and Film Studies. |
Year 2: Interview Skills; Social Action and Campaigning Journalism; Marketing and PR; Production Techniques (magazine production - writing/design/printing); Photography; Contextual studies and video/audio journalism.
|Entry Requirements||You will need four GCSEs (grade C or above)including English, or equivalent. Students must demonstrate a positive work ethic and attitude. We welcome applications from mature students.|
|Equipment||Stationery, diary, access to a computer would be a significant advantage, but not necessary.|
|Attendance||Two years, Full-time.|
|Assessment||You will be assessed several times in each individual module over the period of the programme. Classes are often practical, sometimes run as workshops and most staff are practitioners currently working in their subject area.|
|Progression||Upon successful completion of the programme students have the necessary skills to enter university, further training or a career in the media and communication industries|
