|Introduction||The course introduces students to an in depth study of all aspects of modern day policing. The course includes interaction with serving Police Officers and Police Staff, practical issues, and knowledge of Police Law and procedure.|
The course is delivered by experienced ex Police trainers, who have knowledge of the skills and abilities required to both pass the course and begin any application for both the Special Constabulary and the regular Police Service.
|Study Outline||There will be 8 units per academic year, with subjects such as Criminal Law, Roads Policing, Equality and Diversity, and Technology and the Police Service. Students will be expected to produce in depth assignments as well as taking part in developmental learning using practical scenarios.|
|Entry Requirements||All students applying must have English and Maths to grade 4 as a minimum. They must show they have been successful in studying at Level 3(qualification), preferably to a merit standard. The students must also show on interview that they have the appropriate ability to carry out the study.|

|Equipment||It is desirable if students have access to a laptop or suitable tablet computer, an external hard drive or memory stick(s), and the relevant books used to underpin the law modules of the course. Pens and notebooks are required for the taking of notes in the classroom.|
|Attendance||All students are expected to attend lessons punctually and regularly. The course is run at the Nuneaton Campus and classes run from 9am to 5pm on the days of the course. Presently the course runs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.|
|Assessment||The assessments for the course vary from written assignments, presentations, and developmental sessions involving practical policing scenarios. Students are also assessed on research projects and their investigation skills.|
|Progression||The course is a foundation degree level at Level 5. This leads onto the possibility of completing a top up year at an arranged university to allow the student to successfully qualify at full degree level. The taking of this course also equips the student with suitable knowledge and qualifications to join the regular police service. There is a possibility that apprenticeships will be used by the police service in the next year or so and this qualification prepares students to apply for such a role.|

|Qualification||This qualification runs over 2 years with the first year completing modules up to HNC Level 4. In the second year the modules are Level 5 and lead to the full qualification of a Higher National Diploma in Policing.|
Although not part of the course itself the students will also be introduced to interview skills and the recruitment requirements of the police service.
|Awarding Body||The awarding body is Edexel or Pearsons. They have recently validated this qualification and this college has had a major part in the writing of this qualification. This enables all applicants to plan for part time study, and remain local.|
