IntroductionA Health Care Support Worker could be working in a range of settings which may include; hospitals, community clinics or health centres, individual homes, nursing/care homes, hospices, mental health settings or GP surgeries. Within your role you would be expected to work as part of a team, providing compassionate and high quality care to individuals. You will carry out in practice, well defined routines in clinical duties, checking and monitoring conditions, overall progress, wellbeing and comfort.
Study OutlineExamples of units you may cover include:
-Health and social care principles and philosophy - including duty of care, person centred care, promoting mental health and well-being and safeguarding and protection

-Healthcare needs from prenatal to end of life care and bereavement support

-Carrying out routine clinical duties - including checking blood pressure and temperature and helping people eat, drink and wash etc.

-Infection prevention and control - including waste management, hand washing and using personal protective equipment (PPE)

-Carrying out non-clinical tasks - including cleaning, making beds and record keeping

-Working within a team to agreed workplace standards, policies and protocols

-Health and safety practices, standards and legislation within a healthcare environment

AttendanceAn assessor would be allocated to undertake the varying framework components within the work place and would generally visit at least once a month.
AssessmentYou will have a dedicated assessor who will make on-site visits and provide you with one-on-one support.

All of your learning will be recorded on an online portfolio called Smart Assessor.

You will complete an end-point assessment at the end of your programme.
ProgressionYou could progress onto the Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker which offers the sector based specialisms in one of the following six areas: adult support worker, theatre support worker, mental health support worker, maternity support worker, children and young people support worker, allied health (therapy) support worker.
