IntroductionThis qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop wider sector-related knowledge to underpin occupational competence in the role of a Senior Health care Support Worker, specialising in one of the following six areas: adult support worker, theatre support worker, mental health support worker, maternity support worker, children and young people support worker, allied health (therapy) support worker. This includes knowledge and understanding of the requirements of personal development in care settings, safeguarding and protection in care settings, understanding mental health problems, infection prevention and control, mental well-being , duty of care in care settings and promoting person-centred approaches in care settings

Entry RequirementsFormal entry requirements for the Level 3 BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health Care Support are assessed within initial assessments and expectations would be that English and Math's results would be at Level 1 at least to be taken on to undertake this study programme.
EquipmentThe equipment required to complete the Apprenticeship standard would be outlined by the employer and assessor dependent on the provision undertaking the qualification within.
AttendanceLearners would attend monthly workshops to give them the opportunity to develop wider sector-related knowledge to underpin occupational competence in the role of a Senior Healthcare Support Worker. An individual assessor would be allocated to assess occupational competencies via observing in the workplace, these appointments would be individualised and set directly with the learner.
Attendance for functional skills components of the standard requirements would be undertaken at the NHS trust provision within four week block sessions.
AssessmentAs the Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support qualification requires confirmation of occupational competency. The learner will be allocated an assessor, as will be observed in the work place. A portfolio of evidence is also required; where assignments and reflective practice will be required.The care certificate will be undertaken by the employer and the learner will be assessed against the fifteen standards. The two aspects of the functional skills will be delivered within the workplace provision through a support platform of BKSB and varying resources to support the individuals learning style, which will lead to exams to complete these overall components.As part of the requirements to complete the standards for Level 3 Diploma in Health Care Support; all off the above aspects have been completed prior to being submitted for their end assessment; this comprises of three components; A multiple choice test,a practical observation; reviewing of a learning journal alongside an interview.
ProgressionAfter a period of working and gaining experience within the sector; this could lead to being able to work towards either an Assistant Practitioners or Nursing Associate posts; or even providing you with the entry requirements to apply for university to become a registered healthcare practitioner.
QualificationUpon successful completion of the standard you will achieve the overall Apprenticeship for Senior Healthcare Support Worker(SHCSW)
