|Introduction||This Higher National Certificate programme is designed as the first year of a two year Higher National Diploma to equip individuals with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in employment in Travel and Tourism at supervisory or management level or, after the second year, for progression to the final year of a top-up degree programme at selected universities.|
|Study Outline||You will study a total of 8 units in HNC and a further 8 units in HND:|
In Year 1 HNC you will study:
The Travel and Tourism Sector; Finance and Funding in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Marketing in Travel and Tourism; Contemporary Issues in Travel and Tourism; Tourist Destinations; Travel and Tourism Entrepreneurs; Hospitality Provision in the Travel and Tourism Sector; and Incoming and Domestic Tourism.
Following successful completion of HNC, you will have the option to progress to Year 2 HND when you will also study:
Special Interest Tourism; The Developing Manager; Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector; Sustainable Tourism Development; Heritage and Cultural Tourism Management; Research Project; Public Relations and Promotion in Travel and Tourism; and Personal and Professional Development.
|Entry Requirements||Age 18+ on entry.|
80 UCAS points - Qualifications: BTEC National Diploma or Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism; or at least one A Level with appropriate grade.
Mature candidates with appropriate work experience are also welcome.

|Assessment||You will be assessed on an ongoing basis using a range of methods including: written assignments, presentations, role plays, case study work, fact sheets, reports, seminar discussions, business plan, guide book, peer taught session, projects and Personal Development Plan.|
The majority of assignments will be individually assessed but you will undergo some group work assessment.
Written work is kept in a personal portfolio and assessed at pass, merit and distinction level.
|Progression||Future options are progression onto the second year of a Higher National Diploma in Travel and Tourism Management; into the Travel and Tourism Industry; or, after completion of HND, progression onto the final year of a degree programme at selected universities.|
