IntroductionHairdressers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using a range of techniques, style and finish hair to create variety of looks, and colour and lighten hair for ladies and men. Hairdressers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills.
Study OutlineDuring your on-programme training you will complete the following mandatory units:
Consultation
Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
Cut hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Style and finish hair using a range of techniques to create a variety of looks
Colour and lighten hair using a range of techniques

Once these units are complete you will be entered for final end point assessment which includes a practical assessment and oral questioning.
Entry RequirementsYou will need 5 GCSEs at grade D or equivalent which must include English and maths. You will undergo an interview involving a pre entry assessment in literacy and numeracy. If youÂ’ are interested in becoming an Apprentice, you will need to be employed or find an employer who is recruiting an Apprentice. EquipmentYou will need to have the required materials and equipment in order to successfully complete this qualification. We advise that you purchase the specialised kit with us, order forms are provided upon a successful interview.
AttendanceOne day per week in college and the rest of your working week will be instructed by your employer. You will also be allocated an Assessor who will visit you in the workplace.
AssessmentAssessment is ongoing through practical demonstration and online testing. You will be targeted on an individual basis and this will reflect in your own pace of learning to ensure that you achieve the highest level of competency.
ProgressionAfter successful completion of the Standard you may wish to progress to a Level 3 programme
