|Introduction||This course offers a strong introduction to the painting and decorating trade and will equip you with the background knowledge and skills required to progress on to developing skills in more specialist finishes. You will pick sound skills that will get you carrying out basic tasks. |
We run a series of taster session during the year for you to come and have a go at Construction to see if this is the right choice for you.
|Study Outline||You will have the opportunity to carry out practical work and will cover a range of different skills including: |
Prepare surfaces for decoration
Painting a flush door
Painting a door frame/skirting/window frame
Stripping/applying a wall covering to a ceiling area
English and Maths
It is expected that you would undertake some work experience as part of the course, this is usually in the form of voluntary projects coordinated by the tutors.
|Entry Requirements||You will require GCSE results at Grade E or above in English and maths or basic skills results above Entry Level 3.|
A practical attitude and ability to study at GCSE Level is also required. You will also sit a basic skills assessment in Maths and English to assess whether extra support is needed in both of these areas.
|Equipment||Learners must provide their own stationery, memory stick and safety equipment.|
|Attendance||One year course, 3 days a week. You must attend all elements of the study programme including English, Maths, Tutorials and work experience, the expectation is 95%.|
|Assessment||You will be assessed at the end of each unit, this will be through a multiple choice knowledge test and a practical assessment. |
Whilst taking one of our full-time courses you will also complete a programme of Functional Skills which could comprise of a combination of English and Maths. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.
|Progression||Once you have completed this course, you will be able to go onto study the Level 2 Painting & decorating course or progress onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship, where you will develop your skills further and then be ready to go and work in the industry. |
You can go onto site to be a general labourer from this course or an assistant to a painter & decorator.
