IntroductionThe Entry-Level 3/Level 1 Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities as part of this course. It introduces you to various categories of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors, which includes roles played by workers in their sectors.
Study OutlineLearners study a combination of units to achieve a total of 37 credits. Unit topics include; an introduction to the vocational sectors of Child Studies and Health & Social Care, Human Growth and Development, Caring for Babies, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Disabilities, Healthy Eating, Leisure Activities, Career progression and self-management skills. Learners will also study maths and English. There will be an opportunity to spend four weeks in work placements relevant to your chosen career.

Entry RequirementsCandidates will be asked to attend a formal interview. At this interview you will be required to bring a satisfactory reference from a previous educational establishment. You will need to achieve a minimum of Entry Level 2 in an English assessment which will be arranged by the college following your interview. You will also be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS).
Equipment You will require stationery equipment, uniform, which is to be worn whilst in a practical child care placement, and text books.
Attendance One year, full-time. In addition there is a requirement to complete 100 placement hours.
AssessmentAll assessment is through assignment work.
ProgressionSuccessful completion of this course enables you to apply for either/or a Level 2 Child Studies course or Health & Social Care Course subject to Math’s and English grades.
