|Introduction||This qualification aims to prepare learners to work with children between birth and five years, with knowledge of children up to seven years. It provides you with the high standard of training you need to begin working under supervision, with young children in a variety of early years settings such as nurseries, playgroups and schools. You will learn about children's holistic development, and many practical skills that are needed to support their care and education. Practical placements are key.|
|Study Outline||You will gain the Level 2 qualification by completing sixteen units of study. These are combined core and mandatory units. Your study will include units such as: An introduction to the role of the early years practitioner, Supporting children's development, Physical care routines for children, Safeguarding, protection and welfare of children, Equality, diversity and inclusive practice, Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child, Healthy lifestyles for children.|
|Entry Requirements||Potential candidates will be asked to attend a formal interview. |
You will need to be aged 16+ and have attained: Four GCSEs grade D including maths and English plus 2 references. All students are required to have an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), this will be arranged by the college following interview.
|Equipment||You will require stationery equipment, uniform, which is to be worn whilst in a practical child care placement, and text books.|
|Attendance||One year, full-time.|
|Assessment||All units are internally assessed through assignment tasks presented in a variety of ways. This could be written assignments, display work or tasks set by CACHE. Each task is designed to assess the required criteria. Some evidence will link to your practical placement where you will be expected to show some practical competency through direct observation.|
|Progression||Successful completion of the course would enable the learner to apply for CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications relating to child care (subject to Maths and English grades) or gain employment in a supervised role. Possible job roles include Nursery Assistant, Pre-school Assistant or Classroom Assistant in the private, statutory or voluntary sector.|
