IntroductionDo you want to work with children and Young People within a Residential Provision? This Apprenticeship will prepare you to work with Children and Young People and replaces the Social Care Pathway from a previous qualification.
The Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare qualification consists of 16 mandatory units; some examples below:-
Understand the Development of Child and Young People in Residential Childcare.
Understand how to Safeguard and Protect Children and Young People in Residential Childcare.
With a choice of approximately three options units to obtain a minimum credit value of 61 credits to achieve this overall qualification.
Understand how to Support Children and Young People Who Have Experienced Harm or Abuse.
Promote Effective Communication and Information Handling in Residential Childcare Settings.
Support the Wellbeing and Resilience of Children and Young People in Residential Childcare.
Study OutlineFramework requirements for this Advanced apprenticeship comprise of the following –
Pearson’s Edexcel Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare.
Pearson’s Btec Level 2 Understanding Employment responsibilities and rights in Children and Young People's Settings(ERR)
Level 2 OCR Functional skill in English.
Level 2 OCR Functional skills in Math's.
Level 2 OCR Functional skills in Information and Communications Technology.

Entry RequirementsFormal entry requirements for the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare are assessed within initial assessments and expectations would be that English, Math's and ICT results would be at Level 1 at least to be taken on to undertake this study programme.
EquipmentThe equipment required to complete the Apprenticeship would be outlined by the employer and assessor dependent on the provision undertaking the qualification within.
AttendanceAs the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare qualification requires confirmation of occupational competency. The learner will be allocated an assessor where they will be observed in the work place undertaking planned tasks. Without this aspect the learner would not achieve the qualification as competency cannot be demonstrated. A portfolio of evidence for this part of the qualification would also be undertaken where assignments would be set under the direction of the assessor.
Understanding Employment responsibilities and rights in Children and Young People's Settings this component would be delivered through a workbook.
All three aspects of the functional skills will be delivered within the workplace provision through a support platform of BKSB and varying resources to support the individuals learning style, which will lead to exams to complete these overall components.
AssessmentAn assessor would be allocated to undertake the varying framework components within the work place and would generally visit at least once a month.
ProgressionLearners who achieve the Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare can progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare or the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children's Services dependant on job role.
