IntroductionYou will study this Part-time course for 1.5 days a week over 2 years. The course covers Biology, Psychology, English and Maths as well as Health Studies. It will provide you with the skills required to pursue a place at university in related healthcare and nursing programmes.

Successful students have gone on to gain places in all branches of nursing and social work, along with teaching and business degrees. Examples of training opportunities are: nursing, childrenÂ’s healthcare, adult healthcare, mental health, special needs, midwifery, audiology and social work.

The course is a full-time programme, however, it can be delivered part-time over 2 years, please contact the Customer Service Team for more information.

Access to Higher Education courses can be funded through a 19+ Advanced Learning Loan. If you take out an Advanced Learning Loan to study an Access to Higher Education course, the loan will be written off once you complete a subsequent Higher Education course.
Study OutlineThis is year 2 of a 2 year programme for our internal learners or learners that have completed year 1 in an another establishment.

Entry RequirementsSuccessful completion of Year 1.

GCSE English and maths Grade C or above or equivalent.
EquipmentYou Will need; pens, paper, a folder and a memory stick
Attendance100% Attendance is the target, 95% is acceptable.

Learners that attend well, achieve well!
AssessmentYou will complete a number of assignments which attract credits.
You will need to obtain a minimum of 60 credits, 45 of which must be at Level 3 (A Level equivalent) some modules will be graded some will not, Universities may speculate how many credits at pass, Merit or Distinction they will be looking for.

You will be assessed via, essays, reports, presentations, role pays, exams and assessments.
ProgressionOn successful completion of the course you will gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma accredited by Aim Awards.

You will be able to apply for a range of University programmes including Nursing, Midwifery and other health-related subjects.

You should research university courses very carefully to make sure you have what they are looking for: you will be applying for a university place within a few weeks of starting the Access course! It is recommended that you research your preferred career pathway very carefully before starting your Level 3 studies.
