|Introduction||Access courses are ideal if you would like to enter higher education but haven't got the necessary qualifications. It is ideally suited to adults who have been out of education for some time and who need to re-learn how to study at a higher level before progressing onto a degree programme. |
The Humanities pathway covers a range of subject areas which may see you going to University to study Psychology, English, History, Sociology, Social Care, Media or even Educational Studies. Please check with your university on your chosen degree programme before applying to study an Access to HE course.
|Study Outline||Our 1 year full time Access to Humanities Diploma will see you studying 3 of the following;|
With additional modules:
Core Study Skills - which includes study skills, research methods, applying for HE and presentation skills
GCSE Mathematics improving your grade from a D to a C**
** If you already have grade C, you can be exempted on production of your certificate.
|Entry Requirements||You'll need to evidence that you have GCSE A*-C in either English or maths with a minimum grade D in the other. |
You will be asked to complete an initial assessment of your numeracy and literacy skills; the outcome will determine the best route/level for you.
If you're planning to teach in a primary school, you'll also need GCSE science to meet university entry requirements. You should always check the entry requirements for the courses and universities you are interested in progressing onto.
Some learners require some preparation before they undertake their access course. Level 3 study can be challenging, particularly when you have been out of education for some time. We do offer a Pre-Access course for applicants who do not meet our minimum requirements for the level 3 Access to HE course or who may have been out of education for some time and wish to work on their study skills at level 2 before progressing to the Access to HE course.

Learners with higher attendance achieve better outcomes.
The Access to HE course provides an excellent route for adult learners into higher education as an alternative to A-Levels. Each year around 30,000 learners in the UK take Access programmes and many go on to succeed in Higher Education and embark on life changing new careers.
Our Access to HE Diploma qualifies for the Advanced Learning Loan. This means that learners can use the loan to cover the cost of their tuitions fees for the course.
If they then go onto study a Higher Education course, upon successful completion of their degree course, their loan will be written off. Otherwise they will pay back the loan (plus interest) when they finish the course and earn more than £21,000 a year at a rate of 9% of any income they earn over this amount.
|Assessment||You will complete a number of assignments which attract credits. These might be essays, presentations or controlled assessments for example. |
You will need to obtain a minimum of 60 credits, 45 of which must be at Level 3 (A Level equivalent).
BA Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, History, English Literature or Law
|Qualification||On successful completion of the course you will gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma accredited by Aim Awards.|
