Apprenticeships

What are Apprenticeships?
As an Apprentice you’ll work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. Apprentices are employed, and normally attend college for one day each week (on a day release basis) during their training period. However, some Apprenticeships are delivered entirely in the workplace.
What are the benefits to you?
Getting paid while you learn might sound too good to be true - but as an Apprentice that's exactly what you'll do. Combine the hands-on experience of working with the qualifications you'll gain by studying for the best of both worlds. You will benefit from:
- Earnings
- Prospects
- Support during training
Do I have to pay anything to become an Apprentice?
No! Whilst you are on an Apprenticeship, your employer pays you a salary and supports you whilst you undertake your training – much of which is in the work place but some of which may take place at Engage. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) will pay the full cost of your training if you are aged 16-18. Your employer may be expected to contribute to your training if you are older.
Apprenticeship Courses
Apprenticeships generally fall into one of two categories:
- Apprenticeships – Level 2
These usually take 12-18 months to complete and are available for 16-24 year olds - Advanced Apprenticeships – Level 3
These usually take anywhere up to 3½ years to complete, depending upon the vocation and
the individual.
Different Apprenticeships will have different entry requirements and you will need to discuss this with us and your employer. You also need to be living in England and not in full-time education.
