Our Student Experience team at SLC are committed to providing a wide range of activities which enrich the lives of our students. Our activities are designed to allow students to develop a hobby such as art or dance, to participate in sport or fitness activities or to develop employability skills such a teamwork, organisation, planning and budgeting. Activities are student led which means that students determine the nature and content of many of them. Each year student activities raise a great deal of money for charities such as Children in Need, Comic Relief and LOROS.
College life is so much more than just a course!
You can get actively involved in the decision making processes of the college. Students are given the opportunity to become course representatives and sit on Student Parliament, you can participate in recruitment panels, learner forums, the Students’ Union or become a Student Governor. All of these activities develop confidence, interpersonal skills and make an excellent platform for going onto Higher Education and provides lots of examples of skill development to put into job applications and CVs.
NUS (National Union of Students)
The College Students’ Union is affiliated to NUS, once enrolled you can apply for an NUS extra card which gives a range of discounts in major stores and food outlets. Go to nusextra.org.uk to find out more.
Studying at College is one of the first big steps that you take after leaving school. These changes are what makes studying at SLC so exciting. Not only will you get treated like an adult by the tutors but you will have a first-class experience whilst studying here.
You can choose from a range of trips, parties and talent shows or join the college sports teams to develop and showcase your skills. No College calendar would be complete without the End of Year Summer Ball. A highlight for many students, this is your chance to dress up and celebrate your success in style.
During break times a great place to hang out is the Student Lounge, where you can watch TV, listen to music, play pool and computer games. As you can tell, in-between study there are plenty of opportunities for fun and meeting new friends along the way.
