South Leicestershire College Parents/Carers Information

Is your son/daughter finishing their GCSE's soon?

There are two main pathways for school leavers full-time study programmes and Apprenticeships.  Both options offer practical and technical learning, as well as invaluable work experience, English and Maths and employability skills.

Study Programmes

Classroom-based: Learning may take place in a traditional classroom environment, or within our many real-life working environments, such as our engineering workshops, our salons or in our recording studios

Vocational: Our qualifications relate directly to local and regional jobs. Learning may take place in a traditional classroom environment, or within our many real-life working environments, such as our engineering workshops, our salons or in our recording studios

English & Maths: Employers value English and Maths skills highly, and every student on a full-time Study Programme, will benefit from literacy and numeracy being embedded in the classroom/ vocational environments, as well as through additional sessions

Work experience: Every student will have the opportunity to experience working in their chosen sector or job area through work experience and work-related projects

Added-value: We will also support your son or daughter to develop their communication and teamwork skills, get involved in sport and enrichment activities, stretch and challenge themselves through competition and by taking part in trips and visits

Work-related study: Apprenticeships are tailored to meet the needs of employers and most of the training is delivered in the workplace. They include vocational qualifications (such as NVQs) and technical certificates
