Tamzin Berridge, ESOL Lecturer
I have worked at South Leicestershire College since 2004, and teach ESOL and CELTA. I taught English overseas for 9 years, in Egypt, Hungary, Portugal, Hong Kong, Cameroon and Tunisia, working for the British Council, International House and AMIDEAST. I have a DipTESOL and an MA TESOL and work as an examiner for Cambridge English and Oxford University Press. In my free time, I enjoy going to the gym, baking and spending time with my husband and children.
Mary Carletti, ESOL Lecturer
I lived and worked in Italy for a number of years as an interpreter/translator and for five of those years also worked as a teacher of English. On my return to the UK I completed a course for Teachers of Languages to Adults, an R.S.A. Certificate in TEFLA course and later did an MA in Applied Linguistics & TESOL. From 1985 to 2004 I ran my own summer school courses for foreign students. (From 1996 onwards courses were accredited by the British Council). I have also taught part-time on General English, IELTS and Aviation courses at De Montfort University. I have been teaching part-time at South Leicestershire College for almost 30 years.
Simona Hillyer, ESOL Lecturer
I graduated with a Civil engineering degree in 1991, and took a second degree in Construction Technology and Management at De Montfort University, graduating in 1999. I also qualified as an exercise to music instructor and taught this from 1995 to 2009. Having approximately 16 years’ experience as a civil engineer I then chose a new career path, studied and qualified to teach EFL in 2007 and started work at South Leicestershire College in January 2009. On a professional basis I have since diversified in teaching Functional Skills Maths at College and in the workplace. I completed my PGCE certification in 2011, and a Level 5 Subject Specialist Course in Teaching Mathematics at Leicester University in 2014.
Nathan Nealon, Programme Area Leader
I have been at the college for five and a half years, beginning as Curriculum Manager for foundation Studies and ESOL. This included all maths and English main site and offsite provision. I was responsible for all budgets related to this area, staff recruitment, development and observations, curriculum planning and monitoring.
I changed role to become Programme Area Leader, where I became responsible for LDD and EFL in addition to ESOL. The developing maths and English provision was then shared among colleagues.
I currently teach 410 hours a year (maths, English and LDD) and spend the rest of my time with management duties.
Julie Oswald, Academic Manager
I taught English in Spain for 2 years before coming back to the UK and taking an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL. I was a Director of Studies for 4 years at a private language school in Leicester that provided both intensive summer and full year English courses as well as English for Business and IELTS courses. After that I taught General English and English for Academic Purposes at Leicester University for 3 years. I started at South Leicestershire College 11 years ago and for the last 2 years I have been the Academic Manager.
