Painting & Decorating Apprentice
South Leicestershire College (SLC)
"I came out of college with 4 GCSE’s in Maths, Science, Art and Drama. My journey at SLC started with a Painting & Decorating Diploma Level 1 course.
During my painting and decorating course, I entered into a competition and finished runner up. With the confidence and compliments I was receiving I applied for the Painting & Decorating Apprenticeship at SLC and then received a letter home saying I had been successful in my interview. I knew with the Apprenticeship I’d learn a lot more about the trade and find out what it is like in the real world of work so was happy to accept the job.
Having an Apprenticeship means you’ll learn what it’s like in the real world of work. You’ll experience the difference between working as a student and then working as staff.
My ambition after my Apprenticeship is to join a company and hopefully work my way up to owning my own business. The Apprenticeship has prepared me to do this.
I would recommend Apprenticeships to everyone. You will learn skills that you can have for life."
Where are they now?
Sam is now combining two careers; working part time in a retail store Sam spends his spare time using his skills learnt from his Apprenticeship doing Painting and Decorating jobs for his family and friends.
