Safeguarding is a term used to describe the duties and responsibilities that those providing a health, social or education service have to protect individuals from harm. This includes safer staff recruitment and the SLC Safeguarding Policy.
As part of our induction process, all learners will understand how to recognise abuse, discrimination, bullying and harassment (including 'cyber-bullying') and what action to take if they or other learners are subjected to such treatment. Staff and learners should be able to understand the six categories of abuse as defined by the Department of Health:
We commit to ensuring that staff who work with young people and vulnerable adults are vetted by conducting various checks, including a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. In addition, staff receive training on safeguarding. We have a team of designated senior persons at the college who have received specific safeguarding training; someone will always be on hand to help if you have any concerns.
Staff will take any incidents of bullying (including cyber bullying) very seriously. Report any concerns or worries that you have to your tutor or a member of the Safeguarding Team. Please do not suffer in silence.
